Were you ever in the Pyrenees? I do not know why, but at me still at school, stuck in memory, Pyrenees low, boring hills. And what was my surprise when I saw them with my own eyes. It turned out that this is one of the most inaccessible mountain systems in Europe. Although some peaks in the Alps exceed in magnitude the Pyrenees, with an average height above the Pyrenees than the Alps. The widest and highest part of the mountain system - central. Here is their main peak - the peak Aneto, 3404 m altitude.

Вы были когда-нибудь в Пиренеях? Не знаю почему, но у меня ещё со школьной скамьи засело в памяти, что Пиренеи невысокие, скучные холмы. И каково же было моё изумление, когда я увидел их своими глазами. Оказалось что это одна из самых труднодоступных горных систем Европы. И хотя отдельные вершины в Альпах превосходят по своей величине Пиренейские, в среднем высота Пиренеев выше, чем Альпы. Самая широкая и высокая часть этой горной системы – центральная. Здесь находится их главная вершина – пик Ането, высотой 3404 м.

The Pyrenees received from heroines of the antique mythology, Pyrene. Pyrene was the daughter of Babrika king darbandsky of Bobrikov. Hercules, during his campaign for the cows of Geryon in a state of intoxication, entered into an intimate relationship with Pirenei in which she bore a snake and fearing my father's wrath, she fled into the wilderness, where she had been mauled by wild beasts. On the way back, Heracles found a corpse torn in sorrow and buried him. The name Pyrene was obtained of the mountain where she died and where Hercules loud yelling, which shook the mountain, and mourned her.

Своё имя Пиренеи получили от героини античной мифологии Пирены. Пирена была дочерью Бебрика, царя нарбоннских бебриков. Геракл, во время своего похода за коровами Гериона в состоянии опьянения вступил в интимную связь с Пиреной, в результате которой она родила змею и, опасаясь гнева своего отца, она убежала в безлюдную местность, где её растерзали дикие звери.   На обратном пути Геракл нашёл растерзанный труп и в печали похоронил его. Имя Пирены получили горы, где она умерла и где Геракл громкими воплями, от которых тряслись горы, оплакивал её.

I've seen a lot of mountain systems and they are not similar to each other, each has its own charms and "pearls". Here and the Pyrenees struck my imagination as one of its "pearls". I'm not exaggerating at all when I called the Cirque de Gavarnie the pearl of the Pyrenees. It is located in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park and is part of the object "District of Monte Perdido in the Pyrenees" as a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Я видел много горных систем и все они не похожи друг на друга, у каждой есть свои прелести и «жемчужины». Вот и Пиренеи поразили моё воображение одной из своих «жемчужин». Я не преувеличу, если назову Цирк Гаварни  жемчужиной Пиренеев. Он расположен в самом сердце Национального парка Пиренеи и входит в состав объекта «Район горы Монте-Пердидо в Пиренеях» отнесённого к объектам всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО.

Monte Perdido (Lost mountain) is the highest limestone massif in Europe. Here, on the border of two countries – Spain and France – the Circus of Gavarnie and hides one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Europe, the Gavarnie falls. It is located on French territory on the Northern slope of Monte Perdido at an altitude of about 1400 m. the circus is a huge rocky amphitheatre, surrounded on three sides by a 14-mile arc of snow-capped, glacier-covered cliffs with the height up to 3000 meters. From the slopes, almost vertical walls of the circus falling down a waterfall 12, most of them before reaching the bottom broken into a fine water dust. The most powerful of them, the Gavarnie falls, which consists of three cascades with a total height of 427 m, does not disappear during the whole year.

Монте-Пердидо (Потерянная гора) – самый высокий известняковый массив в Европе. Здесь, на границе двух стран – Испании и Франции –  в Цирке Гаварни и скрывается один из самых красивых водопадов Европы – водопад Гаварни. Он находится на территории Франции на северном склоне горы Монте-Пердидо на высоте около 1400 м. Сам цирк представляет собой огромный скалистый амфитеатр, окружённый с трёх сторон 14-и километровой дугой заснеженных, покрытых ледниками скал высотой до 3000 метров. Со склонов, почти отвесных стен цирка падают вниз 12 водопадом, большинство из которых не долетев до дна разбиваются в мелкую водяную пыль. Самый мощный из них водопад Гаварни, состоящий из трех каскадов, общей высотой 427 м, не исчезает в течение всего года.

To reach the falls on foot or using pack animals from the village of Gavarnie to the hotel "Hôtel du Cirque", where you have to part with your vehicle and do the rest of the route on foot or enjoy the view of the waterfall from the observation deck near the hotel.

Добраться до водопада можно пешком, или используя вьючных животных от деревни Гаварни до отеля «Hôtel du Cirque», где вам придётся расстаться со своим транспортом и проделать оставшийся отрезок пути пешком, либо насладиться видом водопада со смотровой площадки около отеля.

Waterfall Gavarnie has long been considered the highest in Europe, while in Norway was discovered waterfall is even higher.

Водопад Гаварни долгое время считался самым высоким в Европе, пока в Норвегии не был обнаружен водопад ещё выше.

The waterfall is visible even from the village of Gavarnie, but all its beauty and power can be felt only after rising to its pedestal. Myriads of tiny splash wrap the area with fog, so that lost all the paint. It seems that you become participants of the old black and white movie. At the waterfall you can watch for hours without getting tired, forgetting about the time. And the slopes of the circus name is for walking. Waterfall water form a deep river called the Gave de Pau. The Cirque de Gavarnie is visited by over a million people a year.

Водопад виден даже из деревушки Гаварни, но всю его красоту и мощь можно почувствовать, только поднявшись к его подножию. Мириады мельчайших водяных брызг окутывают местность туманом, так что пропадают все краски. Кажется, что ты становишься участников старого черно-белого фильма. На водопад можно смотреть часами без устали, забывая о времени. А склоны цирка зовут к пешим прогулкам. Воды водопада формируют полноводную реку под названием Гав-де-По. Цирк Гаварни посещают более миллиона человек в год.

Victor Hugo inspired by the beauty and Majesty of the falls left the following lines: "the Most mysterious architecture, the mysterious architect, the Coliseum of nature, it is Gavarnie".

Виктор Гюго, вдохновлённый красотой и величием водопада, оставил такие строки: «Самая загадочная архитектура, самого таинственного архитектора, Колизей природы, это Гаварни».
